Dr. Golub’s research has focused on the effects of drugs, toxicants and poor nutrition on brain development using the rhesus monkey model for human pregnancy, infancy and childhood. Specific interventions include obstetric analgesics, the antidepressant fluoxetine, the pesticide methoxychlor, and iron and zinc deficiency. Evaluations of brain function after these interventions is based on standardized tests similar to those used in infants and children. These studies have contributed to the safe use of pharmacological agents and the prevention of nutritional deficiencies.
Science to Protect the Developing Brain
Drugs, chemicals, foods, which ones are safe for infants and children?
