DESCRIPTION

NATURE AND PURPOSE

Dr. Mark Baxter, with the NB: Morrison Lab at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC), is seeking
to hire a postdoctoral employee, 100% time for the duration of one year with the possibility of extension. The
postdoctoral employee will be expected to participate in our research program investigating the impact of tau protein
pathology on cognition and brain function in a rhesus monkey model. The overall goal of this program is to establish
a novel model for tau neuropathology and assessment of cognitive and neuropathological endpoints in a monkey
model, to develop more translationally-relevant animal models of Alzheimer’s disease and facilitate both
understanding of underlying pathological mechanisms as well as development of novel treatments.
In addition to behavioral work, biological samples (blood, cerebrospinal fluid) will be collected and examined for
biomarkers of inflammation and neurodegeneration, and concurrent neuroimaging studies will be carried out to
ascertain whole-brain measures. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to, and be involved in, all aspects of the
research process including study design, protocol development, data collection, sample processing, data analysis,
assay work, and writing and publication of research reports and reviews. Although the primary role of this
researcher will be in the cognitive testing aspects of the project, significant opportunities exist for cross-training in
analysis of neuroimaging data, fluid biomarkers, and neuroanatomical data. An important aspect of this position will
be project management and coordination between the onsite staff and offsite collaborators.
Applicant must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, or a related discipline. The candidate should have
considerable experience collecting behavioral data, ideally in non-human primates, as well as experience and
interest in the neurobiology of aging and neurodegenerative disease. The postdoctoral researcher must be able to
work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team. Candidates should be willing to apply for
independent funding.
Organizational skills to coordinate projects, summarize data, prioritize workload and follow schedules, meet deadlines, to accommodate changes in projects as the need arises, and strict attention to detail with high level of efficiency.
Experience working in a BSL2+ or greater facility
